Dress for Foreign internship success in all industries. Here are 9 tips to make sure you start your job off right.

Dress for the industry. Try to research the summer internship company to see what the work environment is like. You do not want to feel like you are over or under dressed because that can add unwanted discomfort to an already nerve-racking interview.

Make sure it is age appropriate, but nothing revealing. Needs to look professional, but you do not want to feel like you are in your mothers suit. Skirts/dresses should be long enough that you can sit down comfortably.

Light makeup. You do not want to look like you are about to have a night on the town. You are applying for an adult job so the makeup should reflect that. Going with the “less is more” option is always best when unsure or in a professional setting.

Conservative shoe

If your preference is a heel go with one that isn’t too high or uncomfortable. You do not want to look or be uncomfortable while trying to focus on the interview. The shoes are something you can control so you want to make sure that they are comfortable and that way they are one less thing you have to worry about during an interview. Flats would be a smart and safe choice for anyone. They can still be pretty, feminine, and professional looking without all of the discomfort.

Have a Professional Hairstyle

Make sure that your hair is clean and styled. Hygiene is one of the first things people notice and nothing can be more of a deterrent than this. Not everyone is a professional when it comes to styling their hair, but making sure that it looks its best can make all the difference.

Avoid Flashy Jewelry

You want to keep the focus on you not your blink. Having too much going on accessory wise can take the focus away from you and the skills you have to offer the company. Keep it simple.

No heavy fragrances. Subtly is best when it comes to things like this. You don’t want to over-power your future employer.

Manicured nails or no polish at all No one wants to shake your hand in a professional setting and see chipped neon pink nail polish on your fingers. Remember that this is an adult job so your appearance should reflect that.

Keep dressing for success. Even after you have landed the job keep reminding them why they hired you by excelling at your work. Remember that appearance is a key factor to success too. You want to show them that you care and respect for the type of work environment that they try to set.
